Warrant officer Simson Shilongo of the police in Kunene stated that Luteni Muharukua (age unknown) and other alleged poachers had entered the national park illegally to poach rhinos.
However, while they were tracking a rhino, it appeared from nowhere, and charged at the men. It appears that Muharukua fell, and the animal severely injured his leg.
“His friends took and hid him on a nearby mountain, and he was arrested there the next day by the police,” Shilongo stated, adding that the suspect is receiving medical treatment at the Opuwo Hospital under police guard.
Meanwhile, Kunene police also reported the unnatural death of Theodere Uses (56), who was killed at Anker on Tuesday. She was allegedly stabbed with an unknown object in the neck by Johannes Gariseb.
Gariseb appeared in the Opuwo Magistrate's Court yesterday. He was denied bail, and the case was postponed.
