A cat and her four kittens found abandoned in 104-degree heat outside a pet adoption center in Hawthorne, California have recovered and are available for adoption, authorities said.
The cats, left in a carrier, were panting and dangerously overheated when found Sept. 26. The mother, Heidi, had an internal temperature of 105 degrees, 4 degrees over what’s normal for a cat. The spcaLA veterinary team reduced the cats’ temperatures and hydrated them, not knowing the damaged caused internally. Since then, Heidi, Dolly-Jill, Holly-Anne, Polly-Petunia and Molly-Mae have made full recoveries and are available for adoption at the spcaLA South Bay Pet Adoption Center at 12910 Yukon Ave. in Hawthorne. Abandoning an animal is a misdemeanor crime punishable by a $500 fine. |
