Black rhinos have been hunted nearly to extinction, with only an estimated 5,000 left in the world.
The United States, President Obama and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service made a big show recently in Denver when the US decided to burn all their warehoused inventory of Ivory and Rhino horn that were siezed over the years from poachers and other sources. The United States had all the media there to show the United States commitment to saving endangered species... And they turn right around and show that commitment by granting this asshole permission to bring back this Rhino's head to hang on his wall? Black rhinos have been hunted nearly to extinction, with only an estimated 5,000 left in the world. This number is down from 850,000 through much of the 20th century, says the International Union for Conservation of Nature. |

So how can we stop trophy hunters from going to Namibia to kill black rhinos and other animals? More importantly, how can we stop Nambia from issuing any more Rhino execution orders for money? Namibia has a huge tourism-based economy; it is a $7.2-billion industry employing more than 18 percent of the country's people and that's where we can hurt them most
- Tourists should be encouraged to book their African photo safaris -- somewhere other than Namibia.
- There are other great national parks to see in Africa, parks where animals are protected rather than slaughter for trophies or money.
- Ask your local travel agent to direct his customers away from Namibia.
- Talk to friends considering that once-in-a-lifetime trip to Africa, and warn them about the inhumane tragedies permitted by Namibia
We also need to ask Angelina Jolie, to speak out against trophy hunting. Ms Jolie has strong ties to Namibia and we should politely... I'll repeat that politely ask her to speak out publicly about the killing of this Rhino for money.
You can tweet her POLITELY at @angelinajolie.
Also have people who are going on legitimate trips to Africa to send an email or a tweet to Namibia's Ministry of Environment and Tourism and tell them your money will never be spent in Nambia. Also have them include "We do hope you spend that $350,000 wisely because you will see your 7.2 million dollar tourist trade lose that amount ten fold that due to your incredible short sightedness.

Countries need to know the world is watching the way they treat their animals. Whether it is black rhinos in Namibia or dogs in China, people will start taking their tourism dollars to places that are extremely similar but with one major difference, they treat all our planet's wildlife with respect and cherish each and every one of them, no matter if they are old and slightly grumpy. Every animal has a place and a home on our planet.
