Today, you can see only the happiness in her eyes, but for this 3-and-a-half-year-old golden retriever named Chi Chi life didn't start out well.
Chi Chi was born approximately January 2014 in South Korea, and she was born and kept alive for only one reason. One day Chi Chi would be considered ready for slaughter and sold into the dog meat trade.
Discovered in a trash bag in a well-known dog meat slaughter region of South Korea. Her feet were barely attached and she was in immense pain with cuts and bruises all over her body.
Chi Chi, whose legs had rotted from the extreme abuse, was thrown away like yesterday'as trash in an area where dogs are traditionally killed for their meat.
Her rescue from one of the most evil places on Earth for Dogs and Cats was made possible by The Hope Foundation (Nabiya/Irion Project to help injured Animals). The Hope Foundation contacted Animal Rescue, Media & Education, ARME for short, to partner with and find a home for Chi Chi in America.
After Chi-Chi arrived in America she was evaluated by a veterinary clinic. What they discovered was that her four legs were so badly rotten that in order to save her life they would have to be amputated immediately.
Chi Chi would recover and eventually found a forever loving home in Phoenix. Now she lives out her days as a certified therapy dog, swimming, playing, cuddling and exploring all while wearing prosthetics and a HUGE smile on her face.
“She’s an amazing soul, she’s more than an animal, she really touches everybody she meets in a positive way," her owner Richard Howell told PEOPLE. "Her story proves you can go through something horrendous and with the right attitude you can get through anything.”
You can help Chi Chi's family with the medical cost of new prosthetics and treatment for her Lupus by donating to her GoFundMe.
Chi Chi overcame a dark beginning to become one of the happiest dog's you'll ever seen Not only did she overcome her hardship, according to her facebook page, Chi Chi now spends her days helping others.
