JOHANNESBURG - Police say a special task team formed to curb rhino poaching and illegal trade is making significant progress following the arrest of five suspected rhino poachers in the last two weeks.
Police say the group was arrested in two separate incidents near the Kruger National Park.
A Mozambican national and two South Africans appeared in court on Monday and have been charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as trespassing.
The police’s Vish Naidoo said, “They’ve all been remanded in custody until 22 June when they are expected to make a formal bail application. Our prosecution team will be making every effort to oppose bail because we feel that we need to send a very strong message the would-be perpetrators.”
