Animals caught up in the oil spill off California coast are continuing to be rescued as officials say the clean-up project could take months to complete.
A baby female sea lion rescued from the area died as a result of the spill. According to those treating her at SeaWorld, the pup as between a year and four years old. When she arrived she was thin, lethargic, mildly anemic and dehydrated.
Rescuers at the park’s Oiled Wildlife Care Center (OWCC) have been working round the clock to rescue other animals caught up in the oil spill.
Other animals affected by the spill include dolphins and pelicans.
Last week, after 21,000 gallons of oil leak into the sea, California Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency after the nine mile long slick tarred popular sunbathing beaches and destroyed wildlife.
